Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 8

In Greene County district court Michael Joseph Hofbauer, 31, of Coon Rapids was sentenced Aug. 8 after changing his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense and serious injury by motor vehicle by driving in a reckless manner. He was sentenced to five years in prison. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for five years. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge. He must also pay restitution to be determined, $180 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $241 court costs. He must under a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

A judgment was entered against Rianna Lea Stott, 30 of Jefferson on a charge of reckless driving, amended from OWI-first offense. She was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge. She must also pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $140 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Kenneth D. Hostetler, 49, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI-first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. Hostetler must pay a civil penalty of $1,250; half the penalty will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must pay $1,000 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Hayley Lynn Brown, 21, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. She was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. She must also pay $90 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

A judgment was entered Aug. 11 against Jennifer Wendy Gohn Chavez, 42, of Jamaica after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license revoked. She was fined $1,000 with a $350 surcharge. She must also pay $60 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Steven Wayne Busch, 58, of Fort Dodge, OWI-third or subsequent offense; and Alan Dale Ensley, 55, of Ankeny, OWI-first offense, possession of methamphetamine-second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia. Trial dates were set for Sept. 26 in both cases.

A case was initiated in district court Aug. 5 against William Warren Lawrence, 43, of Jefferson on a charge of public intoxication-third or subsequent offense.
